Bits and Pieces

This week is another one that is going to tear me apart. Another three midterms and a paper are due, all over the span of a bit less than four days. To add to that, my parents have decided that we’re going to spend Christmas in Hawaii. Booking tickets is stressful. Mum wants everyone to go, so that’s me, her, dad, my sister, and my sister’s two kids. Ugh. Travel arrangements with kids are especially difficult, and if we’re being honest, I’m not looking forward to extended amounts of time on a plane with these kids.
This is where I'll be on Christmas Day!

The issue with the tickets is exacerbated by the fact I live next to the largest international airport within twelve hours, and they live in a very rural area, so everyone has to fly out of my city. That’s not really an issue, you may say, except that I am ready to go on vacation on the 12th of December, and they’re not ready until the 20th due to work and other commitments. The plan was then hatched that I should just go ahead by myself then, and they would follow me down a few days later. Cool. That’s a seventeen hour flight. By myself, going internationally. I’ve flown alone before, but strictly domestic. This is a little bit scary. My brother lives in Hawaii, so allegedly if I can get there, he is just going to swoop in and take me away from the airport. So if I can get there, I’m set! Plus, the flight is going to be long enough without kids, so I’m happy I can go by myself.

It sounds so foolish, but I’ve never really thought about travelling alone that far. It occurred to me that I did apply for a year abroad, and in essence that’s what it is. I hadn’t even thought about the actual getting from point A to point B, only about what happens after. It all suddenly got very intimidating. But that’s that. Flights are booked. It will be a great trial run for my next big overseas flight!

That’s sort of the story of my stress.

Right now I’m curled up in the biology lounge. On Mondays I volunteer, so I’m killing time until I have to leave for that. Afterwards we go out to dinner, so I didn’t eat yet, but I’m already starving. Do you ever get that feeling that your stomach is like eating itself? Yeah. Right. Now.  We have a pretty strict dress code at this place too, so I’m feeling a little overdressed sitting next to the girl in her pyjamas. Oh well.

That’s really it. Just venting about my aeroplane stress, which is really pointless because the trip isn’t for another couple months. *Sigh*. Getting ahead of myself again.

So. To wrap up this little ranty party, I’ve got a couple cool things on the agenda this week, including a review of some new Benefit items I picked up over the weekend, and a new recipe that’s a hit at my house.

I hope you all are having a great day :)
