Blogmas #10: Gift Guide for Mom

Yesterday I talked about all the things that I think a father might like to get for Christmas. But what about mom? She does so much all year, so Christmas (and maybe possibly mother’s day) are the days to pay her back.

Cheese Curler

My dad does not do the cooking at my house. I would surprised if the idea of making food stylish ever crossed his mind. Mom, however, she knows how to dress up a dish. This neat cheese cutter turns any hard cheese into tidy ruffles, fancying up a regular salad or pasta.

Leather Bow Gloves

Leather gloves are always a good gift at Christmastime. They keep your hands warm while still looking stylish. If you pick a pair with a pop of colour (lot of alliteration in that sentence) then it can dress up an otherwise grey-and-black season. This pair from Banana Republic also has a cute bow detail on the wrist.

Cashmere Scarf

Keeping on the theme of staying warm, a cashmere scarf will feel nice up against your skin and not scratchy like wool, but also keep out the chill. This one from Uniqlo comes in eleven different colours and feels much more expensive than it actually is. Uniqlo is actually a really lovely brand, and I feel like not enough people know about it.

Earrings

Christmas is usually a good time to spring for some jewelry. My dad usually buys mom the nice stuff, while I think it’s more appropriate for her kids to go out for the more statement pieces. These earrings from Novica are beautiful and support the artist in Bali who makes them.

Hand Cream

These hand creams from Laura Mercier are the perfect size to throw in a handbag, keeping your hands soft wherever you go. It’s really hard to buy cosmetics for someone else, but you can’t go wrong with some lotion.

Digital Photo Frame

If you’re looking for something sentimental, I suggest a digital photo frame filled with some of her favourite photos of the family. This one won’t break the bank and you just plug in your SD card and away you go.

On the Go iPhone 5 Charger
In my Dad gift guide, I included a power pack for mobile devices. This one is a little bit more fashionable, and has a matching phone case if you feel the need to be matchy-matchy. The bright patterns are great for finding it easily in a handbag. As I said before, the iPhone 5 is particularly hard on batteries, so I’d recommend checking out one of these.

An E-reader

It seems like everybody has got one of these now. I love mine. I can carry around hundreds of books without having to deal with all that weight. Added bonus is that books are often cheaper, so if you’re a voracious reader it’s even better. Around Christmas, all of the companies have on some kind of deal. This kindle is currently marked down on Amazon, so get it while it’s hot.

Herb Saver

Finally, one more kitchen gadget. This herb saver keeps all of your fresh herbs good for significantly longer than they would be without. This is great to go along with a window-sill herb garden, or just for someone who cooks a lot. This one is also dishwasher safe.

Excellent. So what's in the advent calendar today?

It's a Porefessional Primer. I received one of these in my Topbox last month, and enjoyed it. This tube is larger than the one that came in the Topbox as well. It really does make the makeup last longer. That said, I did get a primer yesterday, didn't I?

What's your mom getting this year?
