KISS Instawave

It’s not much of a secret that I’ve got big, unruly hair. It’s taken many years, but I’m finally at a place where I’m at peace with it and can do just about everything that I want with my hair without getting frustrated. But there are still things that I struggle with.

One of them is getting the hang of clipless curling wands.

I know I’ve got all this curl already, but sometimes you want something polished and refined and sure. With my hair, if I leave it to its own devices, every day is different. When I use a curling iron, I know exactly what I’m getting. The problem is hanging on to the hair that so you get the kind of curl you want, without burning yourself, behind your head. It’s just impossible. I have no idea how people do that.

Those automatic curlers that suck your hair inside kind of frighten me because I feel like one day my hair would get stuck or something awful. But they seem so convenient! Luckily KISS has a compromise that is so brilliant.

Introducing the KISS Instawave.

It’s a clipless curling wand that wraps your hair around for you, creating beachy beautiful waves completely effortlessly. You can make curls towards your face, or away from your face, and using either hand.

It has two heat settings (getting up to 420F!) and an easy to use button that determines curl direction. It also shuts off automatically after 90 minutes so I’m not afraid of accidentally burning the house down when I leave for work.

It’s fully automatic and tangle-free. It makes it incredibly easy to make longlasting beautiful curls with only a push of a button.

It does take a couple of tries to get the hang of it. I had trouble figuring out if the hair needed to be in front of the barrel or behind, but once you have it down, it’s easy. I didn’t find it any more difficult than the transition between clip curling irons and clipless wands.

It makes a high-pitched sound when it’s turned on, but I’m told that they all do that, so it isn’t anything to worry about. You can’t really hear it except when you’re doing the pieces close to your ears.

I made a quick video of the curling in action that you can view embedded below.

When I use this I pick a section of hair about an inch wide and place it next to the barrel. If you’re curling towards your face, the hair goes behind the barrel,  and if it is curling away from your face it goes in front.

Press the winding button and away you go. I like to pull down on the iron slowly as it curls up to get a more even curl, but that’s just personal preference.

After 5-10 seconds, I let the hair go and you’re left with shiny professional-looking curls. I like to finish it off with a healthy dose of my favorite hairspray of the moment.
